Ladakh, the "Land of High Passes", feels like another world. On this 9-day / 8-night adventure you fly into Leh at 3,500 m, take time to acclimatise, and then explore a region of Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, turquoise lakes and lunar landscapes.
You will visit the cliff-top monasteries of Hemis, Thiksey and Shey, cross Khardung La, one of the highest motorable passes in the world, ride a double-humped Bactrian camel over the sand dunes of Hunder in the Nubra Valley, and spend a night in a camp beside Pangong Lake, whose waters change colour from blue to green during the day.
The price of $1450 per person includes all meals, the required inner line permits, airport transfers, sightseeing by SUV and a local Ladakhi guide. This tour is best between June and September.

Morning flight from Delhi over the Himalayas. Transfer to your hotel and rest the whole day to acclimatise to the high altitude – drink plenty of water and avoid exertion.
Gentle sightseeing: the 17th-century Leh Palace, the white Shanti Stupa with panoramic views, and the lively local market.
Visit Hemis, the largest monastery in Ladakh, the hilltop Thiksey (often compared to the Potala Palace) and the royal Shey monastery.
A dramatic drive over Khardung La Pass (approx. 5,359 m) and down into the Nubra Valley. Overnight in a guesthouse or camp. Altitude: Nubra approx. 3,100 m.
Visit Diskit Monastery with its 32-metre Maitreya Buddha statue and enjoy a camel safari on the Hunder sand dunes.
Drive via the Shyok River route to Pangong Lake (approx. 4,250 m). Overnight in a lakeside camp.
Wake up for a spectacular sunrise over the lake, then drive back to Leh over Chang La pass.
Transfer to Leh airport for your flight back to Delhi.
Transfer to Delhi airport for your onward journey.
Leh lies at 3,500 m and the passes exceed 5,000 m, so the first 36 hours are spent resting. Drink 3–4 litres of water a day, avoid alcohol, walk slowly and tell your guide about any headache or shortness of breath. Consult your doctor before the trip – some travellers take acetazolamide as a preventive measure. Pack warm layers, as nights at Pangong can drop below 5°C even in summer.
