Introduction to Varanasi

About the Spiritual Journey: Varanasi & the Ganges Tour

Varanasi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and the most sacred place in Hinduism. This short 4-day / 3-night journey lets you experience its intense atmosphere at the right moments – at dawn and at dusk on the River Ganges.

On the first evening you watch the spectacular Ganga Aarti fire ceremony from a boat, and the next morning you return to the river at sunrise to see pilgrims bathing on the 84 ghats. A walk through the narrow alleys of the old city leads to the golden Kashi Vishwanath Temple, and an excursion to Sarnath shows where Buddha gave his first sermon.

For $600 per person your hotel is located close to the ghats, and both boat rides, private transfers and a local English-speaking guide are included.

A Day on the Ganges

A Day on the Ganges

Life in Varanasi follows the rhythm of the river. At 5:30 am the ghats fill with pilgrims, yoga groups and flower sellers; by noon the city moves into its lanes, and at around 6:45 pm priests begin the Aarti with large brass lamps. Please remember that photography is not allowed at the cremation ghats – your guide will explain local customs so you can experience the city with respect.
